Sauté the Chicken
- Add the olive oil and bite-sized chicken pieces to your skillet. Season generously with salt and pepper. Heat the burner to medium-high. Sauté the chicken for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it's just cooked through. Avoid overcrowding the pan to ensure proper browning rather than steaming.
Set Chicken Aside
- Transfer the cooked chicken to a plate lined with paper towels. This prevents it from overcooking while the vegetables cook.
Sauté Aromatics
- Add the butter and chopped onion to the same skillet. Sauté for approximately 3 minutes, until the onions begin to soften and become fragrant.
Cook the Cabbage
- Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet. Cook uncovered for 10-15 minutes, stirring fairly often. The cabbage will gradually wilt and soften. It might seem like a lot of cabbage at first, but it cooks down significantly. Stirring helps the bottom layers wilt first, making it easier to manage. If your cabbage isn't softening as desired, add 1-2 tablespoons of water and cover the pan for a few minutes to steam.
Add Garlic & Paprika
- Stir in the minced garlic and paprika, cooking for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
Reheat Chicken
- Return the cooked chicken to the skillet. Stir everything together and cook for just a few more minutes until the chicken is heated through. Stir frequently to combine flavors.
Season and Serve
- Taste the dish and adjust salt and pepper as needed. Cabbage can absorb a lot of seasoning, so don't be shy! Serve immediately.

Notes
This easy chicken and cabbage skillet is a flavorful and healthy one-pan meal perfect for busy weeknights. Ensure you don't overcrowd the pan when sautéing the chicken for better browning. Stir the cabbage frequently as it cooks to ensure even wilting and prevent sticking. Taste and adjust seasonings at the end, as cabbage tends to absorb a lot of salt and pepper.
